Essence Profile: Bluebell

Bluebell belongs to the Campanulaceae family, which in Latin means little bell. The Bluebell is a perennial herb with purplish-blue flowers, which grows to about half a metre in height and is commonly found on low-lying ground. The flowers for our essence were found at in desert country at Katajuta in Central Australia

This is a remedy for those who are cut off from their feelings or have blocked off their emotions because they are afraid that their feelings of love, joy, etc., are finite or unrenewable. This fear often results in a controlled, rigid and forthright manner and appearance.

This remedy is also good for young children who won't share their toys and for sibling rivalry.

Bluebell is very much an essence of the heart – it opens the heart, and promotes a belief in abundance and universal trust.

CASE HISTORY 1

Female - 26 years old mother with a 2 year old daughter who was having difficulty coping with her daughter. She felt that her life was out of control and was worried about everything especially her behaviour.

Essences Prescribed:

Crowea for balance and grounding
Wedding Bush for commitment to her life
Bluebell to open her heart
Macrocarpa for renewing enthusiasm, endurance and inner strength
She Oak for a sense of wellbeing.

Follow-Up Visit: The mother responded well to the essences and became much more understanding of the situation. She was not so quick of temper, and was sufficiently enthused to be able to get a part time job away from home, which gave her a sense of self-worth that she was able to impart to her family.

The situation with her daughter seems to have now resolved itself, making a much happier home life for them both.

CASE HISTORY 2

Male, aged 54; Chronic Gastric Ulcer

The patient was rushed to hospital after collapsing, bleeding from the mouth; gastric ulcer diagnosed and patient given relevant medication.

Upon leaving hospital he was put on a course of Losec. Still experiencing pain and burning sensations.

My first treatment was Crowea. The man is a typical continual worrier, and also I found this was the treatment for peptic ulcers in Ian's book. He was prescribed 7 drops twice daily for 2 weeks.

One month later the patient returned to report that the pain had subsided and he was feeling much better. Next I prescribed Bluebell to enable him to open his heart to himself and others without fear. Again 7 drops twice daily for 2 weeks. He had completed his course of Losec and had an appointment for a check up. He was admonished by the doctor and told he should have gotten a repeat prescription of Losec because he was going to have to take this medication for the rest of his life. He was booked for another gastroscopy to check what had happened due to him not continuing his medication so that further treatment could be prescribed.

The result of the gastroscopy was that the ulcer had completely healed – no scar tissue, no need to take Losec or any other medication. This was 6 months ago and he is still well.

CASE HISTORY 3

Male, 73 years old who was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He grew up during the depression and never had a good relationship with his mother as she overwhelmed him with her strong personality. He feels some guilt for never resolving his differences with her. His wife of 28 years died and feels that he did not appreciate her enough. He is now married again and although it is a stable marriage, does not feel that he can express himself fully. He also describes himself as having a pessimistic nature.

Essences Prescribed:

Bluebell, Sturt Desert Pea, and Sturt Desert Rose — to open the heart and work off some of the old grief and guilt issues.

Follow Up Visit: He found it much easier to talk about having cancer and take the support his family was offering.

Other essences were then prescribed to continue healing the many issues related to the prostate cancer.

CASE HISTORY 4

Boy, 4 years old suffering from asthma, loud, barking, chronic cough, seemed emotionally closed, disliked other children playing with his toys, and did not get on with his sister.

Essences Prescribed:
Bluebell and Grey Spider Flower.

7 drops morning and night for two weeks.

Follow-Up Visit: The asthma and cough both vanished and did not return.
