It occurred to me that with the popularity of Getting Out Of Your Own Way, that it would be wonderful to combine this essence with the essences of different totem animals. When we work with an animal we feel is a totem or one that can helps us with a particular issue, the work progresses much more quickly and often brings us even greater healing and awareness than we had originally expected. There is also a sense that we are not undergoing life's problems alone but that we do have powerful friends and allies who are right there with us every step of the way. To truly understand what a totem means to us as individuals takes research into the totem's natural lifestyle and way of navigating in the world. Knowing how a particular totem lives, what it eats, what sounds it makes to connect with others of it's own kind, even what kind of physical structure it has can give us clues as to how we can work more closely with that totem's energy to benefit not only us, but others as well. We too are connected with the earth. We are kin to all the creatures that inhabit this wondrous planet and when we remember this, our lives become fuller and enriched far beyond what we might have expected. We no longer feel alone for we know that there our totems are always with us, guiding us, loving us and showing their support in many ways. I know that for myself when I walk the streets alone late at night I feel no fear for my Wolves are right there beside me. When I am facing a problem or a challenge that seems to be too much for me to cope with, my Crows bring me comfort and messages that all really is alright for they too are on the job, seeking to bring me all the resources I need at the time to make it through. I encourage everyone who is drawn to these and the other Shamanic essences to explore the worlds of totems for themselves. When we ask to understand our totems, ask how they seek to work with us and do so with an open mind and heart, they always answer. And that is a promise they have made to us.
